Rodin's Kneeling Fauness
Height: 28 inches
I started by work in human forms with my own design from mental images of the “expression” combined with some rudimentary art books and self-inspection in the mirror. In order to gain further experience with human forms I was also inspired by the work of August Rodin. “Rodin’s Kneeling Fauness” is a wall-hanging inspired by a photograph of his famous sculpture. I tried to use the grain pattern to simulate her flowing hair rather than to attempt too much detail in the carving. I am currently working on several wax models of similar forms to be followed by sculptures in either elm, cherry, or walnut. I have several root stumps with grain patterns that should integrate well with the sculptures’ form.
